The Daiwa 26 PR100 II L (and its high-speed sibling, the 26 PR II 100HL) is the 2025/2026 evolution of Daiwa’s popular entry-level baitcasting series. The "26" denotes the model year, "II" indicates the second generation, and "L" signifies Left-Hand Drive.

This model is a significant upgrade over the original PR100, moving from a basic budget reel to a more refined "pro-sumer" tool while maintaining an accessible price point.

Key Specifications

The 26 PR100 II series typically comes in two gear ratios. The standard "L" model is usually the versatile all-rounder, while the "HL" is the high-speed version.

Major Upgrades (Gen 1 vs. Gen 2)

The "II" designation brings several features previously only found in Daiwa's mid-to-high tier reels (like the Tatula or Coastal series):

  • Audible Clickers: One of the most requested upgrades. The PR100 II now features a Star Drag Click, Drag Click (it "screams" when a fish pulls line), and Spool Dial Click.

  • Carbon Fiber Frame: The new model uses a hybrid carbon fiber frame, which drops the weight to approximately 180g, making it much more comfortable for all-day casting.
  • One-Touch Side Plate: The magnetic brake side cover now features a one-touch installation method for easier spool access and cleaning.
  • Reinforced Brass Gears: Improved durability for saltwater use and heavier loads compared to the aluminum-heavy internals of the first generation.

Performance Profile

  • Casting: The Magforce system is extremely beginner-friendly. It provides a consistent magnetic pull that prevents the spool from over-spinning (backlash/bird's nests), making it ideal for learning baitcasting technique.

  • Versatility: While marketed as a freshwater reel, the "26" series is specifically advertised with improved corrosion resistance, making it suitable for light saltwater applications (Inshore/Estuary).
  • The "L" Designation: Since baitcasting reels are not reversible, the L is essential for anglers who prefer to hold the rod in their right hand and crank with their left.
